Sand all sides of your wood for DIY platform bed. It does not have to be polished smooth, but you want to avoid splinters and hooks for people and their mattress. Place two beams on their 2-inch wide faces. The beams should be parallel, with the ends aligned and their outer edges 75 inches apart. Place the third beam at the center point between the first two beams, also parallel to and aligned with the other beams.
Adjust the sheet of plywood on the top of the joists. Its 54-inch edges should be aligned with the outer edges of the outer beams. Its edges 75 inches should be aligned with the ends of the three beams. Screw the wood in place with three wood screws evenly spaced along each beam. Point to the middle line of each beam as it travels through the screw of the plywood. Apply a coat of paint to the visible surfaces of the platform.
